Sony Xperia Tablet S Revealed – Specifications, Features And Price

The second generation of the Tablet S has been revealed and it is now to be called the Xperia Tablet S. It is due out on September 7 and retains the same design as the original Tablet S because Sony says that it is easier and more comfortable to hold and they are also claiming that it weighs less than the iPad. It’s not waterproof but they claim that it will survive having 10 liters of water on it per minute for a total of 5 minutes.
The hardware was as rumored which means that Xperia Tablet S does use the quad-core Tegra 3 processor and it will allow you to have up to 64GB storage built-in. The screen is 9.4” with 1280 x 800 resolution and the battery is apparently going to give it up to 10 hours of running time. Because it keeps its IR emitter it still has a wide range of TV apps and some of them are new while others are being improved. This means that it will be launched with Android ICS but Sony has promised that Jelly Bean will be given to the device once they finish updating all their apps.

The applications include old favorites but Xperia Tablet S also has a new one called “Watch Now” which provides a number of features including the ability to monitor social media to recommend shows that it thinks you will like or that are currently trending. The “guest mode” is being called a parental control which might make some people very happy and it will allow you to check into social media when you are watching a show. Since the IR emitter is being kept it now allows you to program up to 6 macros when it’s being used as a universal remote which is a very handy feature.
Xperia Tablet S gives you a full size SD slot for more storage but there are as yet no details on the maximum storage it will allow. Prices have been released and it starts at $400 for the 16GB with the 64GB being available for $600 which is obviously quite expensive compared to its competitors but it is also quite different. Of course it has a range of accessories already available for it and they include a Surface-like keyboard and a stand with built-in HDMI and USB charging adapter which is perhaps the most useful accessory on the list. Each of them is $100 with carrying cases at a little less for non-leather ones.
Because it’s a Sony product it includes Music and Video Unlimited as well as 5GB storage on Sony’s brand new cloud storage service, PlayMemories.

Toshiba Thrive 10″ Gets The Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS Update !

The 10 inch tablet, powered by a 2 dual core processor by Nvidia Tegra and boasting of 1GB RAM, better known as the Thrive, has been doing quite well in the market-despite being run on the older Android platform, Honeycomb. This is because it has proved to be a pleasure to work with, as it is very responsive, a quality that many will appreciate. It is also easily customizable and has clearly been well built. All the same, everyone has been greatly anticipating the update of the device’s OS to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich as this promises to enhance the experience with the tablet even more.
The update, which months earlier had been announced to be scheduled for end of spring which was being eagerly anticipated by Thrive owners was delayed at the last minute by the manufacturers due to unforeseen circumstances. It was announced that the predicted time of release would be in early fall. This came as a big blow to all those who had been eagerly waiting for the update but the good news is that it is now finally here – for real!

The update has actually come much earlier than the second predicted time, but a post on the Toshiba forum informing Thrive users of the move confirmed it. The post said in part, “we are pleased to announce a new software update for your Thrive 10 tablet.” The switch to the new operating system offers Thrive users an improvement in camera functions, video and audio performance and a much better connectivity resulting from improved signal strength.
How to get the update
There has been no news on an update for the 7-inch model, so it appears owners of this version will just have to be contented with the Honeycomb for the time being. If you own a 10-inch version however, the update should begin to roll out for you automatically in the due course of time.  You will get a notification from Toshiba concerning the update and should follow the on screen instructions to download it.  Those who have already downloaded the ICS report that it takes about 30 minutes to download once it starts.
If you are one of those people who just cannot wait for the notification however, go to your “Service Station” app on your Thrive tablet and click on Check for Updates to get the instructions so that you may download the ICS onto your device right away!

Archos G10 tablet with slimmer design to be unveiled in three weeks

Archos been manufacturing MIDs/tablets even before Apple announced the iPad. But they’ve always been more about low-end to mid-end devices, than about making gadgets that actually look and feel premium. It looks like that’s about to change with Archos’ Gen 10 tablets, which look like they were made to compete in the high-end market, hopefully for a lower price.
A few months back we got a glimpse of the Archos G10 XS, which is meant to be a competitor to the Transformer series from Asus. That seems like a good move, as I think there’s a lot of room on the market for hybrid devices that are not too expensive, and run much better than Windows 7 netbooks.
As an added benefit, tablets fitted with keyboard docks usually have a much longer battery life than netbooks. Asus Transformer devices can typically claim over 15-18 hours of use, a performance that is buoyed by the extra battery found in the dock. We don’t know if Archos plans to put a battery in the dock as well, but judging from its thickness , I’d say it includes a battery.
The Archos G10 tablet that you can see in the first image (teased on Facebook) of this post is supposed to be unveiled in 3 weeks, and it might not be the same G10 XS device. I expect the device to arrive with ICS, not Jelly Bean, and probably a Tegra 3 chip.
