Grab the Google Video - you'll lose it

I wish Google would just migrate our videos over to Youtube FOR us (makes sense) but they aren't. In case you missed it:

I suggest you go into  http://www.google.com/video/upload/Status?rf=1&hl=en - I have 19 videos including K12 online videos that are uploaded here!  Don't assume you don't - check this NOW!

From Google

"On April 29, 2011, videos that have been uploaded to Google Video will no longer be available for playback. We’ve added a Download button to the video status page, so you can download any video content you want to save. If you don’t want to download your content, you don’t need to do anything. (The Download feature will be disabled after May 13, 2011.)

We encourage you to move to your content to YouTube if you haven’t done so already. YouTube offers many video hosting options including the ability to share your videos privately or in an unlisted manner. To learn more go here.

Here’s how to download your videos:
  1. Go to the Video Status page.
  2. To download a video to your computer, click the Download Video link located on the right side of each of your videos in the Actions column."

April 16: last Day to Download Free Divisibility apps from McGraw Hill

I almost missed this one and although I've posted twice today, I didn't want you to miss this! The best rundown on this deal is at the Education Technology Blog.

From Jonathan Wylie:

"McGraw-Hill [is] offering their Everyday Mathematics iPod, iPhone and iPad apps free between April 13-16. Well, today they are now live and available for download at the iTunes store."

National Geographic Beta Tests Free Educator/ Student Website

A far cry from the usefulness of the more mature Discovery Streaming, and yet this free educators website from National Geographic is going to be infinitely useful for educators.

Link: http://education.nationalgeographic.com/education/edu/

They have done a good job of segmenting their views by audience. Teachers, Informal Educators, Families, Students, Kids all have their own view. This is smart.

They also have a lot of free tools for educators and a very interesting Geography Alliance to promote Geography literacy and some useful material on the Japanese earthquake.

The more non-fiction multimedia companies do to organize resources, share, and help those with common learning interests network - the better off we'll all be.

Flipboard has Made iPad Irresistable: Order Now Japanese Earthquake may limit parts

It is official. I'm officially asking for an iPad for my birthday. Flipboard is the killer app that has pushed my hand.

I spent the morning setting this up for Mom and Dad.

I was curious because now over 5% of my traffic from this blog is being read on Flipboard.

I see why it is the #1 ipad app. Amazing.

I've explored the Flipboard alternatives and the bottom line is that there aren't any. Nothing comes close.

Just take a look at what this does with my school news blog!

I've been an iTouch fan for a long time. Because I have a mi-fi card, I'll definitely just get the wi-fi version.

Bottom line is that Flipboard makes the iPad irresistable, particularly for content producers, executives, principals, and those who need to stay abreast of trends. With the Japanese earthquake perhaps limiting production of the iPad 2, we are ordering today.

  • super hyper type spider recommended by @fsinfo on Twitter for typing.

"Hungry lizards with words on their backs are after Berry the hairy spider! Save Berry from these colorful, wacky creatures by typing words quickly as they appear on their backs and help her from becoming someone's lunch! Type in the letters or words you see on the lizard's backs as soon as they appear on the screen to clear them away. Some words will be harder than others so type really fast to win! Each round will end when the spider reaches the top of the tree. "

I need to ask some of my library friends about these three models and which they use.

  • I'm not sure how the licensing is working for them. I didn't think you could have one app and share on 40 ipods, but that is what the Charleston County School District says they are doing. After checking with Twitter friends - they confirmed that it is illegal. I wonder how they got this far and didn't know this.

    From the article:

""Everything from vocabulary, to e-book reading, to art, to science," said CCSD Media Services Coordinator Connie Dopierala.

CCSD hopes to invest in a set of 40 iPod Touches for every school in the district, at $150 each. Students can learn math or grammar on inexpensive application programs.

"We can download a 99-cent app and load it on all 40 iPod Touches or however many, and that's very cost-effective with taxpayer dollars," said Dopierala."

  • "Charles Basch, a professor of health education at Teachers College of Columbia University, presented highlights from his research on the relationship between student health and achievement. Basch’s research identifies major health risks that have a negative impact on learning, including asthma, teen pregnancy, poor vision and a lack of breakfast.

“It’s not a coincidence that children in the 5,000 lowest-performing schools are the same ones that experience the greatest health disparities,” he said."
