Asus Transformer Pad 300 up for pre-order on Amazon, shipping on April 22

After being spotted at a French retailer, as well as at J&R last week, in what looked like some fishy early listings designed to mess with our heads, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 has today gone up for pre-order on Amazon, with a release date set for April 22.
Unfortunately, we are still unsure of the gadget’s price tag, which could be anywhere from $399.99 to $489.99 (for the 32 GB model). What makes us say that? Well, the tablet initially popped up with a $399.99 tag next to its name on Amazon, but that was quickly changed to a $489.99, which seems to stick for now.
The price change could mean one of two things, if you ask me. Either the initial listing was a mistake and that $399.99 price will remain a sweet dream for all us technology geeks, which is the worst case scenario, or the 10-incher will end up selling for 400 bucks directly from Amazon and the current $489.99 will only be charged by some third party sellers, namely Spicy Bomb and uShopMall.
There’s no way to know for sure which one of these two price tags will become reality, so, for the time being I wouldn’t recommend pre-ordering the device, even though it might sell like hotcakes and the stock could be exhausted soon enough.
On the other hand, there’s currently another typo live on Amazon, with the gadget said to feature 2 GB of RAM (it will definitely come with only 1 GB), so sadly I think that the most logical explanation for the “fluctuation” in the device’s price is that of an initial typing error.

The Asus Transformer Pad 300 will pretty much come with all the great things we loved about the Transformer Prime, except for the aluminum body, which has been replaced with a plastic exterior. Other than that, this 10-incher will feature, like its older brother, a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, an IPS display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter, and the running of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
There will also be an optional keyboard dock made available for the Transformer Pad 300 sometime after the tablet’s official release, so you will be able to turn this bad boy into a mini-laptop for a not very high price.
Stay tuned on our website in the following days to find out if the Transformer Pad 300 will actually sell for 400 or 490 bucks after all! In the meantime, don’t forget to hit us with a comment below and let us know what you think of the gadget and which one of these two price tags (if any) would make you interested in purchasing it.
