Apple iPad 3 Release Date Set For March 7th: What to Expect?

A couple of days more and we’re finally going to bid farewell to the undying iPad 3 leaks and rumors. You see, Apple has officially announced that it will launch the iPad 3 this coming March 7th at San Francisco. Invitations were already sent and you are all cordially invited to witness the unveiling of the newest model of Apple tablet.
Apple iPad 3
Yes, we do know that the special event that will be held this coming Wednesday will consist of key people from the Cupertino based company. Still, that doesn’t mean that we won’t have the privilege to get a glimpse of the event’s real-time happenings. That being said, there are a couple of blogs and websites that will give us an update via live blogging. Sites like Macrumorslive, Live.ggdt, Engadget, Techradar and The Verge will surely give us the hottest and the freshest iPad 3 tidbits. Anyways, we aren’t really sure if the special iPad 3 event will be broadcasted throughout the web via Live Stream. In case that happens, we do recommend that you visit a couple of Apple-oriented live streaming sites such as uStream. As we have already stated, the special Apple event that will be held on March 7th will take place at San Francisco particularly at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The said event will start at 10:00 o’clock in the morning and Apple did promise something that you really need to see.
The Apple iPad 3 has long been part of our rumor mill. Back then, there were lots of hunches. There were even rumors stating that the next generation of Apple slate will not be called as iPad 3. Instead, it will be called as the iPad 2S. That rumor probably rooted from the fact that Apple did opt to release the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5. Nonetheless, there were credible leaks that have caught our interest. Some of these were stating that the iPad 3 will sport a high-resolution Retina display that will somewhat double the resolution of the current iPad slate. That being said, we do hope to see the next-gen iPad with a full screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. But that’s not all. We’ve also heard that the slate will be powered by a quad core processor and will finally have the needed support for 4G LTE network. There were also speculations stating that the iPad 3 will be packed with a high-quality rear camera with 5MP or 8MP sensor.
Still, it is best if we wait for Apple’s official word of confirmation.

Apple New iPad (3) Launched With iOS 5.1 & Retina Display Features: Pre-Order At Apple Stores

At long last, Apple has officially announced the upcoming availability of the iPad 3 aka the third-gen iPad. Funny, but Apple seems to call its new tablet as ‘The Resolutionary new iPad’. Still, it wouldn’t hurt if we prefer to use the shorter term.
Anyways, we did tell you that there will be a special iPad event that will be held this month. And speaking of which, the grand iPad launch happened yesterday and we were quite pleased to know that the slate did flaunt its long-rumored Retina Display. Hence the name we have mentioned a while back. But that’s not all. We have also come to learn that the third generation Apple slate will also be running on Apple’s latest operating system that we can proudly call as the iOS 5.1. But it’s not just the iPad 3; those with earlier versions of the slate can also download the said OS today. Just keep in mind that you will need to have the latest version of iTunes. The firmware can only be installed on the following Apple devices: iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, 4th Gen iPod Touch and 3rd Gen iPod Touch. In addition, the iOS 5.1 will be packed with Japanese language support for Siri and it will also fix the bugs that affect the lifespan of your device’s battery.
Apple New iPad (3)
Let’s head back to the specs of the next-gen Apple tablet. So far, we have already told you that the iPad 3 will run on iOS 5.1 aside from its stunning Retina Display. As for the latter, expect that you’ll be getting a 9.7 inch tablet with LED-backlit glossy widescreen with a full screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. That’s even more vivid than your HDTV’s display. But that’s not all. The iPad 3 will also flaunt its fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating that goes alongside with its 5 mega pixel iSight rear facing camera with auto focus and FaceTime camera. The iSight camera will be capable of 1080p full HD video recording while the slate’s FaceTime camera can be able to provide you with VGA-quality images with video frame rates that won’t go any slower than 30 frames per second.
In terms of performance, you can definitely rely on the iPad 3’s powerful dual core Apple A5X chipset with quad core graphics. That’s more than enough to handle your slate’s pre-installed apps. Wait. Did we say pre-installed apps? Indeed. The third generation iPad (The new iPad) will be fully loaded with cool and fun applications. You’ll have iBooks for your reading necessities, iPhoto, AirPlay, iCloud, Maps, Newsstand, YouTube, Notes, Calendar, Reminders, Photo Booth, Game Center and a whole lot more. Of course, you will need a stable network connection to be able to maximize your experience. Apple knows that and you can easily toggle between your Wi-Fi and 4G network options. That’s right! With the new iPad, you’ll be able to connect to the web at blazing-fast 4G speeds courtesy of AT&T and Verizon. You will also be able to take advantage of the slate’s high-speed Bluetooth 4.0 Technology for file transfers. As usual, the slate will be equipped with built-in speakers, 3.5mm stereo headphone minijack and 30-pin dock connector port.
Appearance wise, the iPad 3 with iOS 5.1 and Retina Display is a bit thicker and heavier than the iPad 2. It flaunts its 9.4mm thin body with an overall weight of 652 grams. Not much of a difference. You won’t even notice that the slate has become heavier than its previous version. Likewise, it will be offered in Black and White colors.
Apple New iPad (3) Plan
As of now, the new iPad is currently available for pre-order at the Apple Store. The slate will be out in the market this coming 16th of March for a very competitive price that will start at 499 US Dollars. Basically, you will be able to choose between the iPad 3’s two variants. There’s the Wi-Fi only version and the Wi-Fi + 4G version. The latter can be availed via AT&T and Verizon. Both variants will be offered in three storage options: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The slate will also flaunt its new feature called Dictation which is pretty much like Google’s Voice for Android tablets and smartphones. Just like the iPad 2, the new iPad will also have its own Smart Cover that can alternatively work as a tablet stand.

Google Nexus 7 Pre-Orders Start Spreading Across Retailers

Although there’s still a week or so to go before Google’s Nexus 7 is available, various retailers are already starting to take pre-orders for the device. It is worth noting that once it is launched the Nexus 7 will be available for purchase directly from the Google Play Store but if you are in a rush to get your hands on one then the pre-orders may allow you to skip a longer wait for shipping.
Google Nexus 7
So far, the retailers that have live pre-order pages are Best Buy and their Canadian subsidiary the Future Shop, Staples, and GameStop. On the other side of the pond in the UK, Dixons have opened up pre-orders as well.
Discrepancies Between Retailers
All of these retailers only have the 16 GB version of the Nexus 7 listed as available, despite the fact that it was rumored that the 8 GB version would be launching first. Also rather bizarrely some of the retailers are providing different details regarding the date when the Nexus 7 will be available.
Staples says that it expects stock to arrive on July the 14th (or within the range of the 12th to the 17th), whereas GameStop lists the release date as July 31st. Even further down the ladder are Best Buy and the Future Shop which both say they’ll get stock on the 10th of August. Dixons has stated that buyers can expect to receive their device by July 17th.
On the official side of things Google’s last announcement pegged the Nexus 7 for release in the third quarter of 2012, so there is really no telling which date is accurate.
Another point of interest is that Best Buy and the Future Shop both list the price as $259.99 while Staples and GameStop are offering it at $249.99. Furthermore GameStop is running a 30% ‘trade bonus’ on items traded in towards purchasing a Nexus 7.
To sum it up, Staples would appear to be the best choice if you want the Nexus 7 early but GameStop is definitely worth looking at if you are interested in trading in an older device. Unfortunately Best Buy and the Future Shop lag behind in terms of their release date and the price of the device as well.
Nexus 7  Low Down
With a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and Google’s Android 4.1 Jellybean as its OS, the Nexus 7 is one of the most anticipated tablet releases this year. For all its sleekness, light weight and size, it packs a punch with the Tegra 3 processor that also comes with a 12-core GPU that displays movies, images, and games beautifully on its 1280×800 HD display.
It boasts 1GB of RAM, and support for WiFi and Bluetooth while including a micro USB port,  and the front-facing camera, microphone, accelerometer,  GPS, gyroscope, and magnetometer that you’d expect from a tablet.
Both the 8 GB and 16 GB versions of the Nexus 7 are reasonably priced especially considering the specifications that they pack under the hood.
All things considered it is a safe bet that with the hype and enthusiasm the Nexus 7 has generated the pre-orders will quickly fill up, despite whatever inconsistencies may exist between them.

Panasonic Toughpad A1 Tablet Passed FCC Testing, Soon to be Released

We have heard rumors and confirmed reports last year (around November) that Panasonic was planning to release a tablet so tough to withstand water pressure and shock that most of the tablets in the market today. However, six months have already passed until we heard another report and apparently an announcement from the company that the Panasonic Toughpad A1 has already made its way through FCC and is going to be released soon.
Panasonic Toughpad A1
We are hoping that since Panasonic stresses on the Toughpad A1′s water-proof capability that the summer time would be perfect for the release but it hasn’t confirmed any rumors or reports yet. In fact, the full specs were not officially provided yet only features. So, let’s try to tackle on features Panasonic provided and speculate on other specs not mentioned later.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is reassuring to learn that Panasonic’s Toughpad A1 will operate on the latest version of Android operating system (OS) and not Honeycomb. There have been some speculations that Toughpad will feature the robust nature of Honeycomb considering that Panasonic’s soon-to-be-released slate leaves the impression of being ragged.
4G LTE Broadband Connectivity. In a bid to capture a chunk in the 4G LTE market, Panasonic makes Toughpad A1 LTE-capable which is as attractive as it can get. But it is in this feature that we will know that even if this tablet will be as tough as what you might say it is, it doesn’t have a chance to sport a quad-core (Nvidia Tegra 3 or Exynos 4 Quad) processor. If Panasonic wants this device to excel, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 is the perfect choice.
Embedded Hardware Security. This is one of the features Panasonic considers a selling point. Not every tablet in the market gets a dedicated core for security. Although we still have to see what Panasonic has in store for us in terms of security, we are very excited to know this device does not only come with a rugged design but also a feature that make your data safe.
Rugged MIL-STD-810G Design. This is one of the superficial features of this device. But believe me, its design actually leaves an impression that Toughpad A1 will be a robust, rugged and tough tablet. While there are no specs available to compare my statement, I believe Panasonic will use a special kind of glass to protect the display panel.
Business-class Service and Support. This isn’t the first device that Panasonic released targeting the corporate market. So we were actually expecting that the company will be offering business-class service and support for all its users.
Now, let’s try to speculate on the specs this device might come packed with. I’ve already mentioned earlier that there is a possibility that Panasonic will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 dual-core CPU, if it wants to give this device more muscles while being rugged, the fact is Panasonic said Toughpad A1 will feature 1.2GHz dual-core processor so that’s more like it. With 1GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, I think this device will be as competitive as the other tablets in the market. But there’s no mention whether or not it will have a microSD slot or any slot that would support higher capacity removable storage devices. There’s no information about the price and availability yet but stay tuned as we might overkill this device in this blog.

ViewSonic has just recently announced another budget tablet that falls at the $300 price tag. The latest ViewSonic ViewPad E100 will be able to capture the market of consumers that wants to have the feel of an Apple iPad device but prefers to pay half the cost. The device has an impressive profile with its 9.1 mm depth and a mass of 620 grams that is just 20 grams lighter and 0.3 mm thinner than the iPad. Based on the figures above, the ViewPad E100 can really go head-to-head with the high-end product of Apple.
ViewSonic ViewPad E100
The ViewSonic ViewPad E100 houses a 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display with a native resolution of 1024 x 768p. Put it side-by-side with the iPad and you would not see much of a difference between the two. ViewPad E100 will run the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS that is well complemented by the 1 GHz Cortex processor and very responsive capacitive touchscreen display that offers a very smooth experience with the Android OS.
On the connectivity side, users will not fall short of options as the new ViewSonic ViewPad E100 will have a lot of ports that the iPad 2 lacks. The ViewPad E100 has a USB port for transferring files easily to any PC or transfer latest music and movie downloads using your flash drives. It also features a proper HDMI port that offers a more convenient connection as opposed to the one with the iPad 2. In addition, the device will also have a microSD slot to allow the user to expand the internal storage of the device. Apart from the Wi-Fi connectivity of the ViewPad E100, it will also support 3G networks and two variants will be available, one with 3G and the other with Wi-Fi only. In addition, it also has support for Bluetooth 3.0 to connect the tablet to other device and peripherals.
The latest ViewSonic ViewPad E100 is truly an impressive lower-priced alternative to the iPad 2. We are looking forward to see more of this device on the coming months as it will be released in Europe this third quarter of 2012. Price is expected to be around $300 which is much lower than the expected price of £260 for the wi-fi version and £325 for the 3G enabled devices. As quoted from the Michael Holstein, Vice President of Business Development of ViewSonic,
“The ViewPad E100 delivers a mobile tablet experience at an irresistible price point. By pairing our display expertise with the latest Android operating system and mobile technology, we are able to offer our customers a seamless experience for on the go productivity and entertainment,”

Wishtel Ira Thing 2 ICS Tablet launched For Only Rs. 6,500

For a company that only released their first two tablets about 3 months ago, Wishtel certainly seems to be doing well if the launch of yet another tablet is anything to go by. The Ira and Ira Thing by Wishtel received what the company describes as an ‘overwhelming’ response, and now the Ira Thing 2 has been launched to to build on that success.
Wishtel Ira Thing 2
Entirely designed and manufactured in India, the Ira Thing 2 is a trendy looking tablet that comes in 6 colors: Red, blue, black, yellow, pink, and white.
Specifications
The Ira Thing 2 is a 7 inch tablet with a multi-touch capacitive screen that runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Considering the 7 inch tablet market in India already has a number of entrants with Ice Cream Sandwich on board, the Ira Thing 2 faces some stiff competition.
Its 1.5 GHz processor is fairly impressive especially considering the price point, but the fact that it only sports 512 MB of RAM does disappoint slightly too. Also, it only has 4 GB of internal memory for storage, though the support for MicroSD will allow users to extend that by up to 32 GB.
On the front of the tablet is a 1.2 Megapixel camera. Although that isn’t much to brag about, it will allow for video calls and conferences, which is the idea really.
The connectivity of the tablet is a little bit disappointing. It does support WiFi but it does not have Bluetooth or a GPS. To connect to 3G networks, a dongle will be required, which must be obtained separately but isn’t too big of an issue.
Looking at it on a side profile, you’ll notice the 3.5 mm standard audio port, and a mini HDMI port as well.
With a 3000 mAh battery, the advertised ‘browsing time’ of the Ira Thing 2 is ‘up to 4 hours’. Chances are it will be a little less, but that does sound near what would be expected.
A Trendy, Localized Tablet
All in all, the Ira Thing 2 has 2 main selling points, the first of which is the fact that it is a trendy and well engineered device that looks good. Unlike some of the other clunky tablets available at around this price point, it stands out remarkably with its pastel colored exterior.
The second advantage the Ira Thing 2 has going for it is the fact that it has a number of localized customizations on board. It has an Indian language keyboard that supports 14 of the major languages used in the country, which is definitely a plus point.
Other localized options include a news app that will access all the major newspapers, and a TV app that delivers over 120 channels.
Long story short, at Rs. 6,500 the Ira Thing 2 is a tablet that has decent connectivity options, is able to play full 1080p HD movies, and shouldn’t have any issues with apps. What will truly determine its success is probably whether or not it is able to tap into its target market, i.e. the youth of India.
If nothing else, the entry of the Ira Thing 2 into the 7 inch market is bound to intensify the competition there further.

Simmtronics Launched XPad Tablet in UAE – World’s Most Affordable Tablet Series

Simmtronics may not be a household name just yet but it took several steps in that direction on Wednesday in Dubai with the launch of its XPad series of Android tablets.
Claiming that the tablet’s were the ‘world’s most affordable’, it is targeting consumers who are looking for a budget tablet without compromising on its quality or features. The tablets that Simmtronics offers are all made in India, and are already selling extremely well in the Asia Pacific region.
XPad Tablet
The company admits that calling the series of tablets the ‘XPad’ was a conscious marketing decision to opt for a short and easy to recall name reminiscent of the iPad rather than other options such as the SimPad or Simmtronics Pad.
XPad Series Specifications
In the XPad series are a total of 5 different tablets that measure up at 7 inches, 8 inches, 9 inches, 9.7 inches and 10 inches. All of them run on a Cortex Arm8 1GHz processor and feature Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich as their operating system.
On the storage front they have 4GB of internal Nand Flash memory, and also provide MicroSD card support that allows for an additional 32GB.
With both a USB and HDMI port, the XPad series offers users a lot of options and flexibility when it comes to connecting their devices to other peripherals. It is fully WiFi capable, and also has support for 3G connectivity. The only feature missing is support for GPS.
While fulfilling its promise to deliver maximum connectivity for mobile users, the XPad has the capability to handle 1080p HD video seamlessly, render 2D and 3D graphics without issues, and perform well above its price range.  Right now the cheapest model in the XPad series is the 7 inch edition that was launched at a price of Dh 299 ($81.40).
Despite the fact that the launch of the Nexus 7 tablet is set to alter the 7 inch tablet market, the fact that a Nexus 7 will be selling at over double the price of a 7 inch XPad is a good sign that the XPad will remain competitive.
Reception and Future Plans
So far Simmtronic’s foray into the tablet market has been very successful. The manufacturer of motherboards, memory, notebooks and tablets has often made the news for its budget tablets and claims to be able to customize tablets for as low as $40.
At the launch of the XPad in the UAE, Simmtronics also revealed that they will be manufacturing another tablet tailored specifically to the needs of Middle Eastern students. No further details were forthcoming, but it stands to reason that it would be even cheaper than the  7 inch version of the XPad.
Due to the sheer amount of orders that Simmtronics has been receiving for its tablets, they face the need of having to expand their manufacturing facilities. Already the factory in India is capable of churning out approximately 300,000 units per month, and they are hoping to double that soon.
On the heels of the XPad series, Simmtronics already plan a number of other low budget but high quality tablets, and are already looking to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.

Asus Nexus 7 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Manually Update

If you happen to be lucky enough to own a Nexus 7 then you’ve undoubtedly heard that as of yesterday the device began to receive an update to its OS. This update is the 4.1.1 version of Jelly Bean and it brings with it a fair amount of optimization and performance enhancing tweaks.
Asus Nexus 7
Many of the small bugs that were found in the original version of Jelly Bean on the Nexus 7 have also been ironed out and with Android 4.1.1 all HD games should run smoothly and there should be no more battery or display issues either. Also, Google Wallet is reportedly included in this new release as well.
Needless to say, if you haven’t already updated your Nexus 7 to 4.1.1 then you’re going to want to do so as soon as possible. Unfortunately the bad news is that Google is rolling out this update in stages, and so if you happen to be in a country where the update isn’t out yet you are going to have two options: Either you can wait until the eventual roll out does reach your country, or you can manually update your Nexus 7.
Prerequisites
Before you attempt to manually update your Nexus 7 with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, you’ll need to make sure that it fulfills the following prerequisites:
  • The Nexus 7 tablet needs to be rooted
  • At least 60% of the battery charge must be remaining
  • All important data should be backed up beforehand. Sync your contacts with GMail and transfer all files to an external SD card or some other storage if possible
Due to the fact that you are going to be installing the update via the Recovery Mode, you can use a custom mod like ClockworkMod recovery – but it is not necessary. If you are using the stock Recovery Mode this installation process will work just the same.
Installation Instructions
To manually install the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update, all that you need to do is follow these instructions:
  1. Download the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean Update Package from the link provided and save it on your computer
  2. Use a USB cable to connect your computer to your Nexus 7 device
  3. Transfer the file that you downloaded to your Nexus 7
  4. Disconnect the USB cable and turn the Nexus 7 off
  5. Enter recovery mode by holding down the volume down and volume up buttons while pressing the power button simultaneously
  6. Select the option: Install ZIP from SD card
  7. Select the option: Choose ZIP from SD card
  8. Browse, locate, and select the file that you downloaded and transferred over in Steps 1 through to 3
  9. Wait for the update to finish installing and then select the option to ‘Reboot System Now’
Once your Nexus 7 reboots, it should already be running on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. If you’d like to check, you can head over to the ‘About Tablet’ section of your ‘Settings’ and the Android version should be displayed there as 4.1.1.
Installing this update really isn’t all that difficult, and considering the improvements made in Android 4.1.1 it makes sense that you’d want it sooner rather than later. So long as you follow these steps, you should have no issues with the manual installation.

Ainol Releases New Novo 7 ‘Burning’ Tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich

Ainol is a company that many people may not have heard of, though some may have heard of it as ‘Ainovo’. Basically this Chinese manufacturer’s claim to fame came with their launch of the Novo 7 which was the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet to be priced below the $99 mark.
Novo 7 'Burning' Tablet
Since that launch they’ve come up with a few other additions to the Novo 7 series, the latest of which being the Novo 7 Burning tablet.
Once again, this tablet is going to be running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, but what makes it different from past editions of the Novo 7 are the specifications which seem to put it in a much higher bracket of competition than any of its predecessors.
Specifications
The Ainol Novo 7 Burning tablet is a 7 inch tablet that has an IPS liquid crystal display. In itself, the IPS screen means that colors should be displayed a lot more accurately than on most tablets and its resolution of 1280 x 800 goes a long way towards reinforcing that.
Running on an Amlogic 8726-M6 Cortex-A9 dual core processor, the Burning tablet also has a separate GPU in the Mali-400 to help it deal with most of the rendering requirements of modern day tablet apps, Flash, and websites. On the RAM side of the equation, it has 1 GB of DDR3 memory.
Storage shouldn’t be an issue with this Ainol tablet considering its internal 16 GB of storage and support for up to 32 GB additional storage via the microSD card.
One of the features that truly sets the Burning tablet apart from its other Novo 7 predecessors is the presence of two cameras. The rear camera weighs in at 5 Megapixels and can record video at up to 720p HD quality, while the forward camera is only 2 Megapixels but is really intended just for video calls.
As far as ports go it has an audio port, a mini HDMI port, and a mini USB port. Also, it does have WiFi capability but does not have any support for 3G or GPS. The only way to get mobile internet is via a USB dongle that will need to be purchased separately.
Novo 7 Burning Priced Awkwardly
Frankly speaking the biggest problem faced by Ainol’s Novo 7 Burning tablet is that it is expected to compete at close to the same price point as the Kindle Fire 2 and Nexus 7 tablets. Both of those are priced near the $199 mark and right now the Burning tablet is expected to be priced at $179.
Needless to say at only $20 off the price of a Kindle Fire 2 or Nexus 7 many may see it as having a lot to be desired, especially with the absent support for GPS and 3G.
Whether or not this price is final or will drop further as its official release date in August nears remains to be seen. With the Nexus 7 also approaching its official release, competition in this segment of the tablet market will definitely heat up and Ainol may need to find ways to cope with that.
Still, the Burning tablet is an interesting Ice Cream Sandwich device, to say the least.

Motion Computing CL910 Windows 8 Tablet Launched

Most of the news about Windows tablets lately has focused on Microsoft’s Surface tablet, and while it is a pretty exciting tablet for personal use, it doesn’t exactly have the hardiness or features that many business owners may be looking for.
Motion Computing CL910
That is what makes Motion Computing’s announced CL910 Windows tablet stand out.
Despite the fact that it is already being compared to the Surface, the CL910 is not batting in that league. Instead, it is a tablet that is focused on enterprises and fulfilling their needs. This latest addition to their CL-series of tablets builds on the strengths of its predecessors and is fully ready to be upgraded to Windows 8 when it is eventually launched.
Specifications
Although it has the same 15.5 mm frame as its predecessor, and the USB port, SD card slot and Gorilla glass from that model as well, under the hood the CL910 is a very different machine.
For starters, it runs on Intel’s new dual core 1.6 GHz Atom N2600 processor and has 2 GB of RAM along with a 128 GB solid state drive for storage. Its display measures up at 10.1 inches with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and includes two-finger touch support as well as high resolution digitizer pen input. For video calls and conferences, it has a 3.0 Megapixel front-facing camera and a 1.3 Megapixel rear camera as well.
Apart from the USB and SD card ports, the CL910 has an audio output and HD video output port as well. On the connectivity front it comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, wireless SIM and also GPS.
All in all it is a pretty solid tablet, and while it will ship with Windows 7 Professional installed it will be eligible for an upgrade when Windows 8 ‘Metro’ rolls out sometime next year.
Additional Accessories and Peripherals for Enterprises
What makes Motion Computing’s CL910 so attractive to enterprises however are the additional features that come in the form of accessories and peripherals.
The perfect example of one such accessory is the CL-series SlateMate which has an integrated Magnetic Strip Reader and Bar Code Scanner. Other accessories and peripherals include the:
  • CL Series Locking Mobile Dock by RAM Mounts which improves both performance and productivity
  • CL Series ReadyDock by Advanced Technical Solutions which allows multiple tablets to be charged, synced, and secured
  • CL Series VESA Mounting Plates which allow the tablets to attach themselves to any VESA-compliant mounts
While these features may not do much for home users, they are essential for many enterprises and will allow this tablet to be used in a myriad of situations that extend throughout the workplace.
Basically, the CL910 is an enterprise tablet solution that has the future in mind. The biggest advantage it has over most other tablets out there is that because it runs Windows (as opposed to Android or OSX) it will be easy to sync with the existing systems of most enterprises.
Add to that the list of features that very obviously are intended to cater to the needs of an enterprise and it is easy to see why Motion Computing has drawn so much attention with its CL910 launch announcement.

Apple New iPad Shipped to 25 New Countries, Sold 3 Million Units in 1 Week

In a bid to sell more units, Apple shipped New iPad units to 25 different countries today. This is after 7 days since iPad 3 has been released in the United States including 11 other different countries.
Apple’s New iPad comes packed with great features and the most popular among them is Apple’s signature Retina Display which is reported built specifically for iOS devices. According to our sources, the next device to get Retina Display would be iPhone 5, although there are rumors the company will for a 4.6-inch display instead of the traditional 3.5″ screen.
Apple New iPad
Retina Display is said to have 3.1 million pixels compressed into a 9.7 inches screen on the New iPad. This ensures that Apple’s latest flagship will come with great picture and display. HD TVs have around 2 million pixels distributed into a 42″ screen but still you are amazed by the quality of pictures or videos. Just imagine adding another 1 million pixels to that screen and compress it into a much smaller one like iPad’s.
The New iPad was initially released in the US, the UK, Canada, Singapore, France, Australia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Hong Kong, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico where according to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, sold three million units in just a week after it was released.
Having sold 3 million units in 1 week is a record-high sales projection in tablet market. In fact, no other device came close to this record.
The next 25 countries targeted by Apple are: Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Iceland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Norway, New Zealand, Mexico, Macau, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia, Italy and Romania.
Even if the New iPad could come half its performance in the first week in these countries, it would still be a huge success for the company.
While the New iPad is the newest craze in town, still it’s not as perfect as most people think. In fact, there are already hundreds of owners who flooded Apple’s Support forum with problems they have experienced and one of them is the poor Wi-Fi connectivity. The company may be so busy for now that they don’t have time to reply to their customers.
Apparently, Apple is in the process of spreading its new units. Addressing the owners’ problems may come later when everything settles down.
The New iPad is actually one of the most wanted devices this year. So, would you get yourself one of those?

Apple Launching New iPad in 21 Countries Including India: Starting April 20th

In an official press release by Apple, the company confirmed rumors that its New iPad (3) will be brought to another 21 countries around the globe and that includes India. This is still a part of the Apple’s plan to dominate in the world of high-end tablets and it seems that the company is just right on track. For now, there is no other tablet that could beat or even come close with the New iPad and this gives Apple a boost in its sales. While there are many other high-end devices being released almost every month, the Cupertino-based company seemed to have gotten a good grip on the market that when tablets are the topic, anyone would automatically think of the New iPad as the ultimate device for the category.
 New iPad
Starting April 20th, Apple will be officially selling its new iPad to South Korea, Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela. These belong to the fast-rising countries and new mobile technology is scarce except for South Korea. Thus, there is a need for Apple to reach for the wider audience even to non English-speaking countries. After all, its newest flagship is known to all corners of the world and would surely become a hit in no time.
On April 27th, India will be able to receive the first batch of the New iPad including Colombia, Estonia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand. India is among the countries adopting the 4G LTE technology and while the government wants to put tablets in the hands of every student in the country, the new iPad is just on the right season to make a debut. With more and more cheap tablets heading to India, it is a good thing Apple decided to mark its territory by planting a high-end device in the midst of tech-loving people.
While we know that Apple has always been so serious in releasing new devices, the New iPad seemed to have exceeded everybody’s expectation basically because of its specs and features. The loudest of the features of the recently released model is the Retina Display where Apple boasts of stuffing 3.1 million pixels on the 9.7 inches display giving the device a higher resolution everybody wasn’t expecting from a device as small as the New iPad. But it happened that’s why it became a hit. So, for Indian Apple-lovers, brace yourselves for the upcoming release.

Amazon Q2 2012: Kindle Fire best-seller device, net income down 96%

All the main companies in the tech business are posting their financial details for the second quarter of the year, ending on June 30, and after we looked at various players in the mobile business – including Google, Apple, AT&T or Samsung – we now have Amazon’s financial report for Q2 2012 to inspect.
As expected, the most important product for the company remains its own tablet, the Kindle Fire, a device that’s sold at cost, as the giant retailer tries to make money off the digital content purchased on the tablet by its owners.
But Amazon’s numbers weren’t necessarily good for a company that’s fairly interested in turning in a healthy profit each quarter. The company reported $12.83 billion in sales for the period, a 29% increase in sales, but net income dropped 96% compared to the year-ago quarter to $7 million.
Sure, that number was affected by a $65 million “of estimated net loss related to the acquisition and integration of Kiva Systems, Inc.” but also by a “$272 million unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter. But $7 million is still a very low number for such a retailer.
It is not clear how many Kindle Fire units the company sold in the second quarter of the year, but those numbers must have surely been affected by the launch of the new iPad, which made Apple discount the iPad 2 by $100, but also by the Nexus 7 rumors that hit the web during the time – the Jelly Bean tablet has only been unveiled in late June, and started selling on its announcement day at Google I/O.
What we’re mostly interested to see from Amazon is its new generation of Kindle Fire tablets, which may be announced and launched in the following months – the company is rumored to have quite a few models in stock soon, with the most recent report suggesting that Amazon will release six different Kindle Fire versions this year.

Apple says Google told Samsung that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 looked too much like the iPad

The Apple vs Samsung patent-based U.S. case is set to start on July 30, but until then we already have various tidbits to show you from the cases each company will try to prove in court in this legal clash of the titans – and they surely have a complex relationship.
The two companies are fighting for market share and profits in the smartphone and tablet business, but they are also bound by a multi-billion dollar component supply partnership. Also important is the fact that they are facing each other off in more than 50 cases spread across 10 countries, and they’re all mobile-related.
Apple argues that Samsung Galaxy-branded smartphones and tablets are violating its iPhone and iPad patents and designs, while Samsung says that Apple is infringing with various iOS products its own 3G patents – which happen to be FRAND, or standard essential patents.
Apple has scored a few victories against Samsung in pre-trial rulings including a couple injunctions in the U.S. against the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 – albeit the Galaxy Nexus is still selling in the region after a second Samsung appeal succeeded to stay the initial decision, but also an adverse inference jury instruction. The company also won a few days ago a EU-wide injunction against Galaxy Tab 7.7 sales but also lost an injunction in the UK against the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
What’s worth remembering is that while all these verdicts came out in the last few weeks, Google decided to officially help Samsung in its fight against Apple, especially after the Galaxy Nexus sales ban was obtained in the U.S. by the iPhone maker.

But it turns out that Apple lawyers may also use Google against Samsung, at least according to Apple’s brief which mentions some Samsung interesting documents:
“Samsung’s documents show the similarity of Samsung’s products is no accident or, as Samsung would have it, a ‘natural evolution,’” Apple argues in its brief. “Rather, it results from Samsung’s deliberate plan to free-ride on the iPhone’s and iPad’s extraordinary success by copying their iconic designs and intuitive user interface. Apple will rely on Samsung’s own documents, which tell an unambiguous story.”
Apparently these documents reveal that the Search giant warned Samsung in the past that some of its Android products are too similar to the iPhone and iPad:
  •  In February 2010, Google told Samsung that Samsung’s “P1” and “P3” tablets (Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab 10.1) were “too similar” to the iPad and demanded “distinguishable design vis-à-vis the iPad for the P3.”
  •  In 2011, Samsung’s own Product Design Group noted that it is “regrettable” that the Galaxy S “looks similar” to older iPhone models.
  •  As part of a formal, Samsung-sponsored evaluation, famous designers warned Samsung that the Galaxy S “looked like it copied the iPhone too much,” and that “innovation is needed.” The designers explained that the appearance of the Galaxy S “[c]losely resembles the iPhone shape so as to have no distinguishable elements,” and “[a]ll you have to do is cover up the Samsung logo and it’s difficult to find anything different from the iPhone.”
These are all points that Apple will make in court, and we’re certainly interested what the jury will think.
This sort of evidence is all the more intriguing in this case as Judge Lucy Koh, who presides the U.S. case, famously asked Samsung counsel in one of the early U.S. face offs to recognize the Galaxy Tab from two tablets she was holding, one being an iPad. The lawyers were not able to identify the tablet of their client “from that distance” – or about 10 feet away – although they finally managed to provide the right answer.
We’ll be back with more news from this battle of giants in the near future.

Best Buy says some Galaxy Tab 10.1 buyers thought they purchased iPads, returned the Android tablets

Things continue to look not-so-good for Samsung in its complicated patent-based lawsuit against Apple. The two giants are going to face each other off in courts starting with July 30 in the U.S. case, the most important one of for both companies – and they’re fighting it out in over 50 cases in 10 countries.
Earlier today, we heard that Google warned Samsung that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 looked too much like the iPad, which is what Apple was able to get apparently from Samsung documents.
Now we hear that the iPhone and iPad maker scored other similar documents that reveal internal Samsung discussions regarding similarities between its products and Apple’s. One of the interesting tidbits, which Samsung will have a tough time fighting, is the fact that Best Buy customers returned Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices after realizing they were not iPads, which is what they though they were buying in the first place:
Samsung was forced to release a bunch of documents it had been keeping under seal that show the likeness between its products and Apple’s. Examples outlined in the documents include comments from Samsung workers discussing similarities with Apple’s products, and reports Samsung got from retailer Best Buy that Samsung tablets were being returned because customers thought they were getting iPads. Samsung still has a pending motion to prevent all of this information from being included at trial.
So far, Samsung did not have such a great time in courts, where Apple has won more favorable rulings than the South Korean company did, with the most recent one being scored in the U.S. case – the jury was instructed to take into account that Samsung did not preserve documents that could have been used by Apple as evidence in court.
We are thoroughly following the Apple vs Samsung battle because it’s one of the most important legal fights out there for the mobile business, so we’ll be back with more details from the U.S. case that’s about to begin.
Meanwhile, if any of those Best Buy buyers that returned Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices after realizing they were not iPads are reading these lines, then let us know what happened back then and why you made such a mistake.

Lava Xolo X900 Review, Specs, Price & Features

Earlier this year, Intel Corporation and Lava International Ltd had announced their partnership in providing the latest smartphone powered by Intel’s newest mobile processor to the ever growing smartphone market of India. The partnership was disclosed to the public during the MWC in Barcelona that was held last February 2012.
Analysts believe that India’s smartphone market have been growing three times faster than any other global market, making it a viable market to introduce the latest Intel Medfield processor. The partnership has led to the development of Lava’s flagship smartphone, Lava XOLO X900 that is expected to be released all over India this 23rd of April. Lava has also entered a long-term partnership with Croma, a national mega store chain that offers consumer electronics and durables, for promotion and sale of their latest smartphone.
Critics say that Intel will have a hard time in entering the smartphone market since it is relatively new in this sector of the computer industry. However, the release of Lava XOLO X900 seems like to prove that Intel’s entry will be a force to be reckoned with. Companies that thrive in the mobile computing sector should rethink their plans as Intel, though taking it one step at time, will surely take its rightful throne and dominate the smartphone market in the coming years.
Lava Xolo X900
Lava XOLO X900 shows a lot of potential in the smartphone market and its specifications and features are surely making consumers eager to grab a hold of this one of a kind device. Now, let’s examine what this much awaited smartphone has in store for us.
Design & Screen
The XOLO X900 offers a sleek minimalistic design with a soft plastic finish for its back cover. Ports are well placed for easier usability. The left side of the phone is where the HDMI port is located that allows users to hook up their devices on an HDTV. The micro USB port for power and PC connection is located at the bottom of the phone. The camera button, micro SD slot, and the volume control are located at the right side. The top consists of the power button and the headphone jack.
Lava Xolo X900
XOLO X900 is equipped with a high-resolution 4.03-inch LCD touch screen that generates crisp text and vibrant images. The LCD screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 and a pixel density of 295 PPI, which higher than the screen resolution of the Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II. Its resolution is similar to the screen resolution of 7-inch and 10-inch Android tablet devices, which allows the phone to run apps and games that were intended for tablets. The high resolution display also supports multi-touch input similar to other devices.
Hardware, Performance & Connectivity
Lava XOLO X900 will house the latest Intel Atom Z2460, also known as Intel Medfield, which features a single Atom core with a 512KB L2 cache, a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU and a dual-channel LPDDR2 memory interface. The processor also features the Intel Hyperthreading Technology. Intel’s latest processor may not be that shocking, the presence of Cortex A9 and PowerVR SGX 544MP2 in the smartphone market. But the performance really gave the clear answer on what this latest processor can do. According to the SunSpider Javascript Benchmark 0.9.1, Intel Medfield outscored Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and other smartphones such Apple iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorolla Droid X2 and Motorolla Droid RAZR by a large margin. Its performance is consistent as BrowserMark also reported similar results with SunSpider. The performance of Lava XOLO X900 will set a high standard in the global smartphone sector.
Lava Xolo X900
Intel Medfield also provides a better 3D performance compared to other smartphones due to its 400MHz GPU clock. Medfield is better than the OMAP 4460 GPUs since most of these GPUs are only clocked at around 300MHz.
The Lava XOLO X900 is equipped with 1GB of RAM. It also features an HDMI output 1.3a that allows the device to be connected to an HDTV, a feature that will be convenient for displaying presentations in the office as well as for sharing videos and games with the family. The device also has NFC support that will allow radio communication between other smartphone devices. Its applications may include contactless transactions, data exchange and simplified setup of other more complex communications such as WiFi. Users can link their Google Wallet or MasterCard PayPass with the device. In India, NFC transactions are being implemented in cinema theaters for ticketing purposes.
Lava Xolo X900
Mobile Internet needs of consumers is addressed by the Lava XOLO X900 through its High-speed 3G HSPA+ network capability that can have a connection speed of up to 21 Mbps. The device will also feature Bluetooth connectivity as well as wireless LAN to allow easier access to the internet. Hands on observations of the XOLO X900 also showed that the device has a very fast browser as compared to other smartphones. GPS navigation is also possible with this device. For transferring files or to sync the device to a PC, the device has a microUSB port at the bottom that will also serve as the power source for
charging the battery.
Unfortunately, the Lava XOLO X900 will be sold with a later version of the Android OS, Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Intel and Lava have announced that an over-the-air (OTA) update will be available soon for the device, allowing OS update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. However, the exact date for the update has not yet been released.
The device will also have access to the Android Market, a normal feature for Android-based devices. However, due to the high screen resolution, more apps can be installed in this device such as apps that are installed on tablets.
Camera & Storage
Fast processing speed and high-quality display is not the only impressive feature of the Lava XOLO X900. The device also features an 8 megapixel camera with flash capability. It has full HD video recording feature that can record high-definition videos in 1080p resolution. The camera is also optimized for low lighting conditions to broaden the functionality of the camera even if the scene has low light. The camera offers features that can be found on digital SLRs, like adjusting the fps or switching into a burst mode. The user can also choose from several scene modes such as Sports, Portrait, Landscape, Night, Night portrait, Fireworks and text. The focus finder can also be adjusted with options of Auto, Infinity, Macro and touch focusing. White balance and ISO can also be adjusted with a few simple tap. The camera also features a shooting burst mode that takes 10 high-quality photos in a second. It also features a 1.3 megapixel secondary camera for video calling.
Lava Xolo X900
The device comes with internal storage of 16GB that is well enough to store games, photos, and HD videos.
Battery
We may be thinking that since XOLO X900 runs a faster processor battery time would also be greatly reduced. But this is not the case, Intel’s Medfield processor seems very competitive to other smartphones. Power test runs on the reference platform and competitive devices showed that the processor has a lower power usage during standby as compared with Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II. Intel Medfield also has a lower power usage during browsing as compared to both phones said earlier. Power consumption during Talk time and Video playback at 720p is relatively close to the values obtained from the other devices.
Intel’s technology provides its users high-performance usage while maintaining a long battery life. The manufacturers of XOLO X900 reported a battery life of up to 5 hours of 3G browsing, 45 hours of audio, and 8 hours of talk time.
Conclusion
The Lava XOLO X900 has truly set a higher standard in smartphones, the raw performance of this device will provide its users superb quality in entertainment and gaming.
