  • Download and install Samsung KIES on your PC.  This is to ensure that the correct USB drivers are installed.  Make sure that Samsung KIES is not running (even in the background) while you are rooting the phone.
  • Disable all security programs on your computer (including antivirus and firewalls).
  • Make a back up of all the important data on your phone (i.e. contacts, call logs, files, bookmarks and Internet settings) since the installation process will involve wiping your phone’s data.

  • Enable USB Debugging on your phone. Go to Settings > Applications > Development and check USB debugging.

Instructions

This guide is only applicable to the AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 and not to any other phone.
  1. Extract into a folder on your computer the contents of the ZIP file that you downloaded.  The package contains everything you need.
  2. Turn off your phone completely.
  3. Put your phone in Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down key, Volume Up key, and the Power buttons at the same time. Once you see “Warning” displayed on the screen, press the Volume Up key.
  4. Run Odin3 on your computer.  The program is among the extracted files.
  5. Plug your phone into your PC using a USB cable.  Odin3 should be able to recognize your phone once you plug the phone into your PC.  The ID:COM box in Odin3 will light up in yellow if it properly detects your phone.
  6. In Odin3, go to the PDA tab and choose SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar.
  7. Flash the file by clicking the Start button in Odin3 and wait for the process to finish. You will see a PASS message if the process is successful. If you get a FAIL message, remove and reinsert your battery and start over from step 3.
  8. Your phone should reboot automatically and you should already have root and ClockworkMod Recovery installed.
  9. Verify that you’ve successfully rooted the phone.  Go to Settings > About phone and check whether the Kernel version shows “2.6.35.7_ZedomaxStockKernel”.  If it does, then you’re okay.

    After installing on my AT&T i777 phone the wifi does not work. you can turn it on but it immediately turns off after showing turned on.
