T-Mobile G2x gets Gingerbread while the Optimus 2X is still waiting

LG Optimus 2X owners rejoice! Your favorite terminal gets a much desired software update! You were certainly disappointed by the fact that such a snappy and powerful phone is still running Froyo but you should be happy to find out that the frustration is over as. Besides the Motorola ATRIX, another dual-core smartphone that packs the Tegra 2 has received the Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

We are talking about the U.S. market version of the LG Optimus 2X. Interestingly, the transition to T-Mobile G2x was chosen by LG although the Optimus 2X was long before released in the rest of the world, being the first dual core processor in the world that was recorded by the Guinness World Records.
The upgrade to Gingerbread is done by using the LG software as it was the case for the Optimus One. The 2X has a size of 178 MB and the GRI40 build number. Note that the update is not available over the air. Hooking up to your PC with your phone is a must. Then just launch the LG Mobile Support tool and be done with it!  You will receive all of the goodies bourght by Gingerbread such as improved application controls as well as power management tweaks.
I suppose that this summer on the list of terminals that received the Gingerbread update we will also find the Optimus 3D, the first dual core 3D phone sold worldwide – which we recently reviewed. Keep in mind the fact that some problems were brought by T-Mobile G2x to those who have purchased it. The complaints talked about the functionality of the screen as well as the random starting and shutdown of the terminal. I tested the European version of the LG Optimux 2X and I haven’t encountered any problems with it. Happy upgrading! Stay tuned for more news!
