Mozilla’s New Competition For Android

Android has been successful in the world of gadgets mainly because it has been described by Google as “open source.” The manufacturers of tablet and other handsets want it to be free of charge.
But there have been many cases in the recent past. Some of the court cases related to patenting threaten to make the Android application more chargeable. Last week HTC lost two cases against Apple, though the cases have been appealed and the final decision is due in December. HTC and many other manufacturers have already struck a licensing deal with Microsoft. The manufacturers along with Microsoft and Oracle are going to sue Google for some elements of Android.
Many developers are not happy with Google as it had defined Android as open source and said that the application was developed secretly. The readable source code is not released until months after the new versions are given to the manufacturers. It is also considered to be a waste as many apps have to be rewritten from scratch and require a different native code for almost every device.
Mozilla who is best known for developing the web browser Firefox is going to step into this breach with the launch of its new project.
Some days back there was a forum post in Google groups in which Andreas Gal the researcher at Mozilla announced that the company had started a project which they were calling as “Boot to Gecko.” This application is being made to build a complete operating system for open web. It still requires work in many areas.
Mr. Andreas Gal also said that the company is going to work in open and release the source in real time. The company will be taking all the successful additions that are required for appropriate standards groups; they will also be tracking the changes that come in this process. These native grade apps are not only designed for Firefox, instead the company is trying to have them running on the web
Though the project is still in its infancy and it has to prove itself among the competitors like Google, Apple, and Microsoft. But according to Mr. Gal the main aim is to be better than the rest of the service providers. Mozilla wants to take a bigger step now and fill the gaps that separate web developers from the applications developers. The company will be developing applications that are equal to native application developers like Apple and Google.
