At last, US carrier Verizon announces that all of Motorola Xoom devices under its network will be receiving the official Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update this week. This is after many Xoom owners were asking when the company would actually push the update on their servers. While many carriers and manufacturers have actually started updating their devices to the latest version of Android, there are still a handful of considerably new smartphone models that run on the dated version of the mobile OS and one of those is Motorola Xoom.
Of course, there is a good reason why any Android smartphone owners would want to upgrade to the ICS firmware; one of those reasons is added functionality. With ICS, Android smartphones have become even smarter and considering the designs as well as features, no Android user could resist. But basically, Motorola Xoom can acquire more cool features when updated to ICS firmware. That’s why many Xoom owners have been desperate to hear from their respective operators when the update will be made available. At least, the Big Red finally made a statement that starting June 4th, ICS update for Motorola Xoom could be pulled down from its servers.
Speech-to-Text Technology. This is one of the features that Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola Xoom brings. While not everybody could find this technology useful, at least they will be amazed how the words from their mouth can be converted to text on their screens. Writers and bloggers might be able to find this technology useful for their profession as it is way better than typing on the smaller on-screen keyboard on their Xoom. With this technology, they will be able to dictate to their device what they want to type and that’s it.
Finger-Swipe Notification Dismissal. Everybody knows what this means but not everyone can enjoy this functionality. There are certain Android devices that also come with this or there are manufacturers who develop small apps just to mimic this functionality. But for Motorola Xoom, it comes as a native function provided it is operating on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
New Custom Launch Bar. Motorola promised that there will be a new launch bar when Xoom gets updated to ICS. While it may be superficial for some, others may just find it cool. After all, it will improve the overall appearance of the device. This will also create new ambience for users.
Create Folders. Motorola Xoom owners who updated their device the latest version of Android would enjoy being able to create folders to store their frequently used apps on the homepage. Not all Android devices are capable of this functionality so it will be just a good new addition to the features of Xoom.
Motorola also promised that there will be an improvement on the overall performance of the device so this update will surely make a difference. Above all, you will never be left behind by your peers who might already be using the latest version of Android. Again, June 4th will be the start of the push and owners can start pulling down the update starting that day.
