Sony Xperia Neo L is Sony’s first smartphone to sport Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and we knew that this handset was originally intended to be released in the Chinese market only, although just today I have heard rumors that it will be offered outside China and into the global market. Neo L possesses really attractive specs and features and while millions of Chinese were glad to receive this handset first, billions of tech enthusiasts and Android lovers around the globe were aggrieved by the fact that this device might not see the sunlight outside China’s territory. But it seems like that’s not the case anymore as the Japanese Electronics Company itself confirmed the reports by launching the device’s dedicated page in its global website.
It has always been the practice of Sony to launch the official or dedicated pages of the devices it is planning to release globally after a localized market. Thus, while there hasn’t been a formal announcement from Sony yet, and this post may sound like a prediction or a speculation, it is almost certain that Sony Xperia Neo L will be distributed in the global market after a dedicated page for the device was published with “Coming Soon” teaser just enough to be seen or read by the visitors to the site. It is also indicated in the page that the handset will be made available in black or white colors.
Sony Xperia Neo L sports Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon single-core processor clocked at 1GHz and paired with 512MB of RAM. Clearly, this handset does not come with really spectacular specs but what it has are more than enough to ensure faster and smoother user experience. Aside from that, you should also take into consideration that this is Sony’s first ever device to be released bearing Android’s latest version, the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Had this device built for Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it might have gotten just 800MHz CPU and 384MB RAM. Basically, this is Sony’s way of impressing tech enthusiasts in China but it seems that it failed in its mission as far as revenue is concerned.
Sony should have realized that this device has a brighter future if released to other countries aside from China. The United States and the United Kingdom are just two of the countries that welcome Sony’s brand warmly. With its design and specs, it would surely be welcomed by warmly by Sony fans from around the world. As of now, there is no information as to the price and availability of the device but since the promotion outside China has already been started and with new lineup of phones piling up, Xperia Neo L might be released in mid-June for an affordable price or the one that people are already familiar with.
Sony Xperia Neo L has a 4-inch display featuring LED-backlit LCD and up to four-finger multi-touch support. Its resolution is set at 480 x 854 pixels while its camera gets 5 megapixels. With all these specs, you can never underestimate the power of this handset. But let’s wait until Sony announced further details about it and when it will be released.
