Samsung Series 5 Hybrid PC Features Windows 8, Pen Support & Magnetic Keyboard

For people who might have heard and have been thinking that Samsung Series 5 Hybrid PC is a desktop unit, you’re wrong because it is a laptop with full functionality of a tablet. If you’ve seen Asus Transformer Prime in action, then let me tell you that both have a lot of things in common and one of those is the detachable keyboard. Basically, you are looking at a laptop which can be transformed into a tablet but Samsung calls it Series 5 Hybrid PC. If you agree, this device has a really snappy name that would elude you into believing that it is what it is not. Well, as much as we want to lay our hands on this ultrabook, we can’t so we really envy our friends over at Engadget who were among the first few people to have been given a chance to try Samsung Series 5 Hybrid PC.

Magnetic Keyboard Attachment. Now, let’s talk about the keyboard and how it attaches itself to the main unit. First, I want to iterate that all the hardware needed to run a laptop or a tablet is stuffed behind Samsung Series 5′s 11-inch display. Basically, it wasn’t built the way typical laptops or notebooks were built. Instead, it is a product of genius engineering and innovation. This makes it possible to detach the keyboard anytime without losing power or changing any configuration. Additionally, the keyboard attaches to the main unit not through the typical latch system that you can find in Transformer series from Asus. Instead, a magnet is called to play a role in making sure the keyboard is attached to the main unit in more stable way possible.
Pen Support. We’ve already seen Samsung Galaxy S3 featuring S-Pen and such technology is being ported in this device. Basically, Samsung Series 5 Hybrid PC supports pen input and will come packed with S-Memo and S-Pen software to make it possible to receive data from an external input device. With this, you might be urged to believe that the hardware used for both Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy S3 are the same as the one used in this hybrid PC. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here because the 11-inch Series 5 Hybrid PC will be running on Windows 8 and thus, all of the functionality I’ve mentioned above are tailored for Windows OS. Aside from that, Samsung is using an x86-based processor, although the company hasn’t disclosed the Intel system on chip (SOC) that will play a big role inside this device.
Windows 8 OS. We know for a fact that in the world of Android, Samsung has already claimed a bigger chunk of the market. The fact that it will be releasing a Windows 8 notebook/tablet is evident that the company also wants to claim dominance in this market. Thus, there is a higher possibility that it will use high-end hardware with better performance for this device to make it as attractive as to acquire so much attention, build up the hype and cultivate popularity which happened in Android world.
There is no price information disclosed by the company but it is believed that Series 5 Hybrid PC will be competing in the high-end market alongside other high-end devices from Asus and LG which have already been announced to sport Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge SOCs. If this is so, then it could be that this ultrabook will also feature either i5 or i7 processors. The availability date hasn’t also been disclosed yet. So, let’s wait and see what Samsung has in store for us and why it has to release a follow up on its Series 5 lineup.
