Android 3.2 – An interesting update for tablets

On the Android Developers’ Blog, the 3.2 update dedicated for the Android based tablets has officially been announced. Although this update will certainly not revolutionize the way you use your tablet, it brings some interesting new features that are worth a look. One of these new features is represented by the optimization that has been implemented for a variety of screen sizes.

Now you’ve probably thinking that a “variety of screen sizes” is the exact thing we lack. Well, think again because several companies are already planning tablets with all sorts of screens sizes. Just last month, the Huawei manufacturer announced the first 7 inch Android tablet boasting the Android 3.2 and, of course, we can expect other models with new dimensions to be released in the near future. You should be happy to find out that the Huawei tablet packs a dual core processor.
There is now a new feature present in the 3.2 version of the Android operating system that’s focused on the applications that are ported from mobile phones or simply use a resolution that is lower that the screen’s one. This new and excellent feature allows the filling of the screen through a simple method: pixel scaling. What is more, the tablets that have a slot card will now be able to access multimedia content directly from the card. As a result, the need to copy the contents in your internal memory is no longer required. Pretty useful, isn’t it? Another update allows developers a more precise control over the GUI.
We do not know how many tablets that at the moment are running Honeycomb, will receive the Android 3.2 update in the near future but the Motorola Xoom tablet is the first on the list. Acer’s Iconia Tab 500, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1and Toshiba’s Thrive are the other candidates.
