Motorola MOTOSMART MIX XT550 Heading Straight To China: Music-Oriented Smartphone

In a press release dated May 15th Motorola Mobility China confirmed rumors that it will be releasing a music-oriented smartphone for the Chinese market in the form of Motorola MOTOSMART MIX XT550. The company is targeting people who really care about music and so this handset will be packed with everything necessary to make music playback seems like magic. Since it is not built to compete with other devices with higher specs, Motosmart Mix XT550 would have mediocre specs and an Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the operating system. But then again, the very purpose of this device is for the users to have better music experience while empowered with other mobile phone capabilities. Perhaps it would be better if we look into the specs a little closer.

Motorola Motosmart Mix XT550 will be using Qualcomm’s MSM7225A Snapdragon processor clocked at 800MHz that comes with Adreno 220 graphics processing unit. This is such a typical entry-level specs but I’ve already explained above why Motorola hasn’t gone beyond these. Well, anyway, the 800MHz CPU will be given 512MB of RAM just to keep everything in operation and I believe this random access memory is more than enough to keep everything smoother and faster. The tendency of the users in using this device is to stuff all kinds of music in it so a microSD slot was made available for everyone who wants to have bigger storage.
In fairness to Motorola, even if this handset is built for music, it gets 4 inches of screen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution capable of multitouch. Usually, manufacturers that want to focus more on one niche often neglect other aspects but not Motorola. So, eventually, there would be an able display with fairly good resolution and full functionality. But if there’s one thing being reduced to give way to other features, that would be the camera. Motosmart Mix XT550 gets only 3.15MP camera that could shoot pictures as wide as 2048 x 1536 pixels. Of course, you can expect that the secondary camera for video conferencing would be getting VGA resolution. But don’t fret because Motorola gave this device a really powerful battery with 1735 mAh that could reach up to 30 hours of non-stop music playback; that’s reassuring, don’t you think?
Now, for the final feature, Motorola brought in Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement technology just to deliver what it promised music-loving Chinese geeks. Dolby has decades of reputation in providing one-of-a-kind musical experience and having the SRS surround sound system compressed into a smart phone, you could say music will be delivered to your ears in such a unique and pleasing way. A customized headset built specifically for this device will come with the package.
So far, the specs are not really that bad for this device. However, if there is one thing that could make users get disappointed with it, that would be the OS. Knowing almost all Android devices today operate on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, you would always feel left out if you are still using Gingerbread. But nonetheless, the OS still has a lot to offer. Motorola hasn’t included in the press release if there would be a firmware update roll out shortly after the release. Also, the price hasn’t been disclosed yet as well as the fixed date of release.
