Acer Iconia Tab A110 & A210 Reveled: Feature Quad-Core Processor

There hasn’t been any commotion about the Acer Iconia Tab A110 when it was revealed at Computex in Taipei. Apparently, it seems like it is the rightful replacement for Acer Iconia Tab A100 which has been released almost a year ago. Together with it is yet another device that goes by the name of Iconia Tab A210 which is also a replacement for the previously released Tab A200. The thing is replacements have a lot of things to prove before people would actually appreciate their existence.
The first criteria for replacement devices to be accepted by fans and the public is the specs; does the new device comes with higher and better specs than the device it is supposed to be replaced? Well, for us to answer that question, let’s try to go over the specs of Acer Iconia Tab A110 and Acer Iconia Tab A210 to see what they have in store for us. We will also be talking about the A110′s reported price of $199.

The specs matter a lot for Acer Iconia Tab A110, thus the company behind the creation of this great device has made sure it has everything it needs to become competitive in the market it is trying to conquer. Reports tell us that it will come in with Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor putting it ahead of the competition in terms of the kind of SOC (System on Chip) being used. We already know the capability of Tegra 3 and we have already seen how powerful a device becomes when the manufacturer uses one of the most powerful processors in the market today.

Primarily, Acer wants credit when it comes to this factor knowing there is definitely a huge bump on the specification of the processor used compared with the one used for Tab A100. As a refresher, Tab A100 features Nvidia Tegra 2 T20, a dual-core SOC clocked at 1GHz. If you try to look into the new devices’ Nvidia Tegra 3, it seems to have doubled the specs of the other processor. Although it doesn’t mean that the performance would also be doubled, you will surely be happy to know that the new Tab series will have at least 60% boost in overall performance.
The previous Tab A110 had Android 3.2 Honeycomb pre-installed but this year’s Tab A110 will feature the latest version of Android—version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). If you are going to ask if there is also an improved performance when it comes to the OS, the answer is “pretty much!” When you try to compare Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich, you would know that there is a great difference when it comes to design, speed and performance. Obviously, Android ICS is one of the selling points Acer is pointing out.

The previous Tab A series (A100 and A200) has identical specs and I mean in every aspect. Perhaps, one of the few differences these devices had was the audio because A100 was adorned with Dolby mobile sound enhancement system. While there are no sufficient information about the specs and features of the new Iconia Tab A210, we are left to assume it will have almost the same specs as with A110. However, if you think that the device which has a larger number on its name has higher specs, you’re wrong because it’s the other way around. It is expected that A210 will be competing in the mid-to-low market while A110 will be on the high-end market.

The Acer Iconia Tab A210 is a 10 inch tablet that works with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Acer also makes use of the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor for this device with a battery having 3620 mAh power. It will be available on 8 or 16 GB of internal memory but can be expanded via a microSD card. It will also operate on Android ICS and may be released together with A110 in the third quarter of this year.
Our friends from TheVerge.com have been able to talk with Acer representative and they were given an estimate about the selling price of Tab A110 when it is released late in September. According to their writers, Acer reps told them that Tab A110 will be released for a price below $200. We know for a fact that when Amazon release Kindle Fire for $199, the online store was able to ship six million units over the first holiday period making it the most used Android tablet in the US by the end of February.
If Acer equals the price of Amazon Kindle Fire, it might go beyond the sales projection achieved by Amazon over a short period of time considering the fact that Acer Iconia Tab A110 has really better specs. In Android history, there hasn’t been quad-core tablets offered for as low as $200. But it seems like both Acer Iconia Tab A110 and Tab A210 will be carrying a price tag with very affordable figures. But then we still have to see if the reports are true.
