Dell Streak 7 Tablet Review – Specification, Features, Price

The Streak 7 is a collaboration between Dell and T-mobile and was released on 03rd February 2011. It shares the shape and looks of Dell Streak 5 but is in tabular form and packs the powerful NVIDIA processor. Its cost effectiveness and fast HSPA+ speed make it an attractive device.

Features:

The Streak 7 claims it has a stain resistant screen but it gets dirty very quickly. The slightest of tapping leaves smudges all over the screen. The rest of the body, made out of a hard plastic, resists dirt since it has a criss-cross pattern spread throughout the back. The tablet does not score much points in the display department since it is limited to 800×480 resolution and at extreme angles the view almost completely wiped out.
The front of the tablet has a front-facing 1.3 MP camera along with three buttons usually found in android tablets. The second 5MP camera is found at the back in the top left corner of the tablet in landscape mode. On the right side is a plastic flap which can be easily opened to reveal the SD card slot and the SIM. On the top of the tablet lie the usual power button and the volume controller. The two speakers in the tablet are placed opposite to each other; one on the right and the other on the left side. The battery in the Streak 7 cannot be accessed and is charged only through a port.
The streak 7 uses the stage user interface which is not as satisfactory as maybe the honeycomb experience. The Gmail experience has not been customized and one finds the usual smartphone version of Gmail without the two panel display. The media player is bland and simple while the video quality, supposedly HD, is atrocious. The battery life of the Streak 7 does not impress either and does not even last half the time as compared to its counterparts.

Verdict:

The Streak 7 seems as if it is a product of hastiness and rushed development. Some aspects of the Streak 7, like its powerful processor and its cheap price, are definitely plus points. However, the tablet experiences choppiness, bad video quality, and a very average display. The most basic android apps have not been optimized, like the Gmail. Also, its battery life does not score any points in its favor. Overall, the tablet is a good option for people short on money.

Price:

The current price of the Streak 7 is $449.99.
The Bad News: It looks like Dell is retiring the Dell Mini Streak 7. After its release they have found some flaws in it and currently removed it from their site.
