If you still don’t consider ZTE as a major player in the tablet wars then maybe you will after you learn of the features of the soon-to-be released ZTE Light Plus. If you have not heard of ZTE’s previous offerings, the Light and the Light Pro, there’s a good chance that you will hear about the company’s latest device. The major improvement of the Light Plus over its predecessors is its use of Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Of course that’s not the only upgrade. The Light Plus will also be significantly more powerful with its 1GHz Qualcomm processor. With the Light Plus, ZTE seems ready to lead the pack of manufacturers producing affordable mobile devices.

Features
At first glance, there really is nothing special about the features of the yet-to-be launched ZTE Light Plus. It’s 7-inch WVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera and HSDPA connectivity are definitely inferior compared to the features of other high end tablets in the market. But when you find about its price, you will surely take a second look. Without a contract, the Light Price is expected to be priced at €250 or around $365. It will surely become more affordable though with a contract. It is still unknown what company will carry the Light Plus. In Spain though, ZTE has teamed up with Telefónica for the Light Pro. Those looking for an affordable tablet should hold on to their cash for at least a few more weeks when the Light Plus becomes available. Judging by ZTE’s previous forays into the tablet arena, the Light Plus should be a decent device capable of performing basic functions expected of an entry level tablet. One of the drawbacks though of the Light Plus is that it may not qualify for an upgrade to 3.1 Honeycomb. At least, this tablet can already connect to the Android Market, which is one of the things that really matter when getting an Android device. The Light Plus is capable of both both 3G and WiFi connectivity. The form factor of the Light Plus is also so-so with its basic candybar touch tablet design. But of course, this device is mainly intended for people who don’t consider design to be a major factor in choosing a tablet. Price and Release Date
€250 or $365 without contract. Exact release date still unknown. Conclusion
For people who have been searching for an affordable tablet for months should stay tuned to news about the ZTE Light Plus. Based on the limited information available, the device looks really promising. At €250, the ZTE Light Plus is already a steal. But for sure it will even be more affordable with a contract.
